There aren’t many worse feelings in football than losing to your bitter rivals at home but Manchester United fans have had to put up with it today.
The Red Devils were simply hammered by Arne Slot’s Liverpool side at Old Trafford as things continue to look bad for Erik ten Hag.
Despite a summer of being backed, the same problems appear to be persisting for Ten Hag and United and a 3-0 loss was probably lenient today.
Naturally, the Liverpool fans were in a jovial mood and wanting more, while floods of United fans headed to the exits early.
And as usual, Reds fans couldn’t wait to stick the knife in a touch further.
Liverpool fans mock Manchester United fans as they leave Old Trafford
Looking on at the game for the BBC, reporter Simon Stone picked out what the Liverpool fans were up to as the minutes ticked down inside Old Trafford.
“The Liverpool fans are loving this. They have just waved off a Manchester United fan, who was leaving the ground early and making his feelings known,” Stone pointed out.
“Now they are singing ‘Ten Hag’s at the wheel’.
Liverpool fans will milk any win over United
Of course, the song is mocking the version the United fans used to sing when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge.
Now, things look even worse than they were under Solskjaer and Ten Hag could be under serious pressure before he knows it.
For Liverpool, of course, it’s a different story.
The Arne Slot era has started quite brilliantly and what better way to really endear yourself to the Reds fans than beating United at Old Trafford with such ease.
At this rate, we could have a three-horse race for the title and for all the talk of Arsenal catching Man City, it might end up being Slot’s Liverpool who are the biggest challenger.
