Speaking to Sportskeeda, the pundit suggested that Liverpool looked much better at Molineux when Mac Allister was taken off, with the Anfield side winning 3-1 having gone down 1-0 in the opening half.

Signed this summer for £35m, the Argentine international has had a mixed start to life at Liverpool, with Mac Allister yet to get going at his new club.

Despite a lack of performances, many fans are still confident that the midfielder will be a success, with Mac Allister a player who has shown his quality already in the Premier League.

Yet Merson’s comments could hint that Liverpool might be better off without the 24-year-old, with the results pretty stark based on what happened on Saturday.

The pundit said: “Liverpool also turned on the style after the interval against Wolves and looked so much better after subbing on Luis Diaz for Alexis Mac Allister.”

Mac Allister has made quite the leap from Brighton & Hove Albion to Liverpool, and time will be needed if the midfielder is to fully settle at his new club.

The South American is clearly a talented player who can become world-class once he has clicked in Jurgen Klopp’s system, much like other Liverpool icons have in recent years.

Whilst early signs haven’t been great, Mac Allister knows he is yet to hit full steam with Liverpool, and future performances could be explosive for the midfielder at Anfield.
