It’s safe to say that Liverpool were absolutely phenomenal away at Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, Arne Slot’s new era at the club well and truly begun.
There’s already been glimpses of how Liverpool can improve under Slot in the opening games of the season, but the likes of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah took things to another level at Old Trafford.
United were poor, there’s no escaping that, but Slot’s side were excellent, they’ve already found the arrogant brilliance of some of Jurgen Klopp’s best teams in the past.
No doubt, there will still be blips along the way, but Liverpool proved that they are in safe hands, particularly if Salah decides to stay around.
It seemed almost impossible to outshine Diaz who scored two goals, but the Egyptian did just that.
Arne Slot still not happy with elements of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool display
Jamie Carragher was commentating on Sunday’s 3-0 thrashing at Old Trafford for Sky Sports, and the pundit spotted an interesting moment mid-way through the first half.
Looking down at both managers on the touchline, the pundit noticed that Slot was fuming with Trent Alexander-Arnold at one point, who didn’t seem to be quite grasping his gameplan.
Carragher explained: “That’s an interesting one, I was looking at the managers beneath on the last attack, and I think it was Trent Alexander-Arnold, tried a flick round the corner with his left foot.
“The frustration, looking down at him [Slot] – turned away in disgust. There the things that he doesn’t want, he wants you to make the extra pass, not risk something.
“There’s maybe some differences we’ll see between his Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp’s.”
Of course, Alexander-Arnold went on to deliver a superb all-round performance, and although Slot’s reaction may seem a little harsh, it’s important that the manager holds such high standards.
Slot can convince Alexander-Arnold to ignore Real Madrid interest
Throughout the summer, rumours of Real Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold often surfaced.
And although Slot’s tough love may be tough to stomach right now, often subbing the England full-back early in recent games, it could be important in time.
The Dutchman clearly isn’t content to just accept more of the same from Alexander-Arnold, even if he is already excellent.
Slot wants more, he must see every bit of potential the defender has.
And also, it’s important to consider that the Englishman is just returning from the Euros and an injury-hit season, so any extra rest he can get will be redeeming.
