Liverpool enjoyed another dream weekend in the Premier League with the Reds securing all three points against Aston Villa as Manchester City lost against Brighton & Hove Albion.
The result put the Reds five points clear of the reigning English champions in the Premier League, with Liverpool fans sending a message to FSG regarding Mohamed Salah’s contract in what was an entertaining tie at Anfield.
With the November international break now here, Liverpool will hope to go again once the final window of 2024 is over, with the Reds looking like strong favourites to go all the way in the Premier League this season.
And one moment against Villa tonight reminded Lucy Ward of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
Liverpool praised after Klopp-like counter-attacking goal
Speaking on TNT Sports coverage of the match, the former Leeds United striker likened Liverpool’s counter-attacking goal against Villa to something that wouldn’t have looked out of place under Klopp.
The speed of the move caused a three-on-one situation for Liverpool as Mohamed Salah managed to find Nunez inside the area, who finished expertly past Emi Martinez, and Ward was amazed with what she saw from the Reds.
The pundit said about Liverpool’s opening goal against Villa: “We talk about the differences Slot has brought to the team but that is one thing that has stayed the same from Klopp.
“The counter-attack was stunning. Van Dijk just puts it in the channel and knows Salah was going to be there, he is fouled, Nunez takes it quite wide but it’s a great finish in the end. When he doesn’t have to think about the finish is when he is most effective.”
Klopp will be pleased to see where Liverpool have gone this season
Few would have predicted Arne Slot to succeed Klopp as well as he has at Liverpool, with the Dutch manager leading the Reds to the top of the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League tables heading into the November international break.
And for Klopp himself, the German manager will be pleased to see how well his former club are doing since moving on from Anfield, with Slot evolving Liverpool into something quite exciting this season.
Indeed, Liverpool have a real shot at winning silverware this season under their new manager, and Klopp will be the first to praise Slot for all the work the former Feyenoord coach has done at Anfield this year.
