The last few days of this summer’s transfer window are expected to be busy for Liverpool.
The Reds haven’t signed a single player this summer. Arne Slot has had to start the season without any reinforcements, and to be fair to him, he has done a good job so far.
All eyes are on whether Liverpool will make a new signing in the final days of this window, but there could be a few outgoings too.
Xabi Alonso has his eyes set on signing one Liverpool player on a season-long loan, claims The Times.
Xabi Alonso wants to sign Liverpool’s Tyler Morton on loan for Bayer Leverkusen
Tyler Morton’s Liverpool future has been up in the air since the summer transfer window opened.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who joined the Reds academy when he was just seven, is an extremely talented player who has huge potential. Jurgen Klopp even branded his football brain as ‘absolutely exceptional‘ in 2021.
However, Morton has players ahead of him in the pecking order in the Liverpool first team at the moment, which is why he has been linked with a move away from the club.
RB Leipzig held talks with Liverpool to sign Morton earlier in this window. Now, another club have joined the race to land him.
The Times claim that Bayer Leverkusen have made an offer to sign Morton from Liverpool on a season-long loan deal.
The report reveals that Alonso is personally ‘keen’ to sign the 21-year-old midfielder to help his side in their quest to defend their Bundesliga title.
Liverpool placed a £20 million price tag on Morton earlier in the window. It remains to be seen if they will now agree to loan him out for the 2024/25 campaign.
What Tyler Morton wants to do
Morton spent each of the last two seasons on loan, first at Blackburn Rovers and then Hull City in the 2023/24 season.
Both spells were huge successes.
The report claims that the Liverpool midfielder now wants to ‘continue his upward trajectory’, but chances at Liverpool aren’t expected to come regularly.
At Leverkusen, however, his game time will definitely be more, and the chance to work under a legendary midfielder like Alonso is a very attractive proposition too.
Morton wants to keep playing after two excellent loan spells. The best chance for him to achieve that would be to leave Liverpool this summer.
