‘Not good enough’ – BBC pundit slams ‘greedy’ Liverpool player after what he’s seen v AC Milan

Written by admin

BBC pundit Stephen Warnock ripped into Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota after a selfish performance from the Portugal international against AC Milan.

The Reds kicked off the new Champions League era with a commanding 3-1 victory over their Italian counterparts and now sit in the top five of the new league phase.

Liverpool had to do it the hard way. They were forced to fight back from a goal deficit, with former Chelsea star Christian Pulisic firing the Rossoneri into the lead.

Unfazed by going behind, Arne Slot’s side responded with two well-taken set-pieces to turn the game on its head.

Ibrahim Konate pounced on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free-kick before Konstantinos Tsimikas found skipper Virgil van Dijk with a corner to ensure Liverpool went into half-time with a deserved lead.

Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai combined after the hour mark to make it 3-1 and ensure Liverpool return to England with maximum points in the bag.

Slot would have been delighted with the response and performance from his side, but BBC pundit Warnock wasn’t impressed with Jota’s antics during the game.

The Portuguese forward had a huge chance to score in the 27th minute but he put it wide when a pass to the unmarked Gakpo would have been a better option.

“It is greedy,” Warnock said on BBC Live. “Not good enough from Jota, he has to square. Gakpo is furious.”

Liverpool came into the game on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League but have responded with a dazzling display against European opponents.

Warnock was impressed with how the Reds turned the tides in their favour after going behind in the early stages of the game.

“Liverpool got a foothold in the game, and Arne Slot changed things,” Warnock said. “The possession Liverpool had was dominant – it created so many opportunities.

“Liverpool got complete control going 3-1 ahead, and it never looked in doubt from there.”
