Liverpool transfer round-up: Jurgen Klopp’s £50m midfield partner for Dominik Szoboszlai

Written by admin

After Dominik Szoboszlai’s signing was officially announced on Sunday afternoon, Liverpool’s transfer window has been improving steadily.

After Liverpool met his £60 million release clause, RB Leipzig released the 22-year-old Hungary international. He follows Alexis Mac Allister, 24, who joined Jurgen Klopp’s team this summer in a £55 million transfer from Brighton.

Despite a strong start to the window for the Reds, there is still plenty of time to add additional players. When their separate contracts expired last month, James Milner, Naby Keita, Roberto Firmino, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all left Anfield.

Who is Klopp after, though? Here are the most recent Merseyside transfer news stories…

Liverpool’s pursuit of Lavia

Lavia

Ben Jacobs, a transfer expert, claims that Liverpool is genuinely interested in signing Romeo Lavia from Championship team Southampton. Lavia, 19, a former junior player for Manchester City, made his international debut for Belgium in March.

The kid performed admirably for Southampton last season, earning 29 Premier League matches, but it is anticipated that he may leave after the club was demoted. Liverpool will have competition for his signature from Chelsea and Arsenal, who are rumored to be interested.

Liverpool will step up their interest in Lavia after signing Szoboszlai and Mac Allister. Southampton will not let him leave on the cheap after giving City £10.5m for him a year ago. That deal included a 20 per cent sell-on clause, which is why the Saints want £50m.

Yet Liverpool believe they can sign Lavia for cheaper. It’s still early days in the transfer window and more information on this proposed deal will emerge over the coming weeks.

Inacio on radar

Liverpool are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon centre-back Goncalo Inacio, according to Fichajes. The 21-year-old has made 119 appearances and won four trophies – including the Primeria Liga title – during his three seasons in Sporting’s first team.

It’s believed Sporting want €50m (£43m) for Inacio, who is regarded as one of the most exciting defenders in European football. Liverpool’s main rivals for his signature are Chelsea, while Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are also interested in him.

The first words of Szoboszlai

The “perfect” club, in Szoboszlai’s opinion, for him to advance in his burgeoning career is Liverpool. The talented athlete is a graduate of the Red Bull system and has already amassed a sizable collection of medals at Leipzig and Salzburg, including four Austrian Bundesliga crowns.

He’s also won back-to-back German Cups and was named as the Austrian Bundesliga Player of the Season three years ago. During the 2021/22 campaign – his debut season in Germany – he was named as the German Bundesliga’s Rookie of the Month three times.

Szoboszlai said: “It’s really, really good [to be here]. I enjoyed the last [few] days and I’m looking forward to knowing everybody better. The last three or four days went really long, it was not that easy. But at the end I’m here, I’m happy and I can’t wait to get started.

“[A] wonderful historic club, great players, great coach, all good. Making the next move at such a club was ideal for me. Everything about the stadium and the spectators is excellent.

Dominik Szoboszlai has already sent blunt message to Liverpool that Mohamed Salah and Liverpool fans will love

Dominik Szoboszlai, a target for Liverpool, has previously stated his desire to win the Champions League.

The 22-year-old is scheduled to get a medical before moving from RB Leipzig to Anfield. Just hours before it was set to expire, the Reds informed the Bundesliga team on Friday that they would exercise the midfielders’ £60 million release clause.

The base fee was scheduled to become available at the completion on June 30. The Hungarian captain is now a step closer to being captured by Jurgen Klopp.

Szoboszlai will arrive in Merseyside as the German manager demands an improvement from his team after their fifth-place Premier League finish the previous campaign. The Leipzig midfielder looks set to walk through the doors at the AXA Training Centre on the back of winning back-to-back DFB Pokal’s with Die Roten Bullen.

It’s an exciting time at the Reds after the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister plus with big campaigns ahead for Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez. The ongoing work at Anfield will also see Liverpool move closer to having a 61,000-seater capacity with their first game of the Premier League season away from L4.

However, the 22-year-old has previously discussed his goals in detail before joining Liverpool. Speaking to the official Bundesliga website, he declared: “I have previously stated that winning the Champions League is my greatest desire.

“I want to have a really excellent career and win as many trophies as I can because that was my aim when I was younger. For the national team, I want to play in front of 70,000 spectators in packed stadiums, score goals, and make people happy.

“I also want my father and other members of my family to witness me taking home awards like the Champions League.

“That’s the aim and that’s why I get up and work hard every day. Hopefully, that will pay off,” he added. “Once again, to win the Champions League. I also want to stay healthy and injury-free, I don’t wish injuries on anyone.

“With Leipzig, I aim to finish as high as possible in the Bundesliga and advance as far as I can in the cup and the Champions League. We are currently working toward that.

Mohamed Salah expressed a similar attitude at the conclusion of the previous season in a heartfelt social media message, lamenting his failure to win the Champions League.
