When Liverpool travels to Wolverhampton Wanderers for their FA Cup third round rematch, it may be their final such match of the competition, as they have learned.
On Tuesday, January 17, the Reds will play at Molineux (kickoff: 7.45pm), with the match being broadcast live on BBC1.
Last Saturday night’s first match between the two clubs ended in an exciting 2-2 draw at Anfield thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool have already been eliminated from the FA Cup twice before by Wolves under Jurgen Klopp, losing 2-1 at home in the fourth round in 2017 and by the same scoreline away in the third round two years later.
The match against the Reds next week may be their final ever rematch in the FA Cup due to continuing discussions about the future of English football, including proposals to alter the competition. Replays are currently allowed through the fourth round.
If Klopp’s team advances, they will play another Premier League team in the fourth round when they travel to Brighton & Hove Albion. Five previous FA Cup matches between Liverpool and the Seagulls resulted in victories on three of those occasions, including the most recent encounter in 2012.
