‘JUST INTERESTING’: SKY PUNDIT REACTS TO WHO LIVERPOOL COULD BE ABOUT TO SIGN AHEAD OF DEADLINE

Jamie Carragher says Ryan Gravenberch’s expected arrival at Liverpool is ‘just interesting’.

The Liverpool legend questioned if the Ajax academy product can play that defensive-midfield role, with Jurgen Klopp’s side in need of more legs and players to play that position.

It has been reported by Sky Sports that a deal of £34.2 million has been agreed between Liverpool and Bayern Munich for the 21-year-old player.

But, as of this moment, as the Friday deadline edges ever closer, the Anfield faithful are waiting for Gravenberch to come in.

Nonetheless, this is what Carragher made of Gravenberch’s expected arrival.

“It’s just interesting where he (Gravenberch) is going to fit in,” said Carragher. “I don’t think he is necessarily the defensive-midfield player that Liverpool are still needing even though they brought in a player from Germany (Endo).

“I think he is more of a number eight. He is box-to-box. Gets forward. That’s why Bayern Munich got rid of him. Thomas Tuchel didn’t want to play him in that position. He doesn’t play that way. Plays slightly differently.

“He is a player that Klopp and the club wanted 12 months ago as well. I am interested to see where he fits in and whether Klopp thinks he will be that defensive-midfield player. I don’t think that’s his natural game.

“But he is young. A good pedigree. Played for two great clubs in Ajax and Bayern Munich. And, to be fair, the fee isn’t that expensive.”

Gravenberch is still raw

There is a lot to work with for Klopp, but he is a player that is worth pushing for and working with.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Gravenberch is used because he can sit in front of the defence, as well as play as a number eight.

But, if he does move to Merseyside, then someone like Klopp couldn’t be a better coach and man-manager for him.
