Following the 2-2 draw in the third round of the FA Cup, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp was reportedly seen hugging a Wolves player.
Paul Joyce of The Times reports that at the conclusion of the game at Anfield, Liverpool’s German manager could be seen hugging Matheus Nunes, a potential transfer target.
A rerun will be held at Molineux in the coming weeks due to the 2-2 tie. However, with reports that Liverpool is reportedly interested in Nunes (via The Telegraph) being in the public domain, the news of Klopp hugging an alleged transfer target is certain to further stir up the pot.
According to reports, FSG pledged in the summer to make another bid for Nunes, who finally transferred from Sporting to Wolves despite rumored Liverpool interest. They must now choose whether to keep their word, and the hug might indicate that Klopp is interested.
But it’s important to remember that Klopp did the same thing with Kylian Mbappé, who is currently playing for Paris Saint-Germain, back in 2018. At the time, many people thought Klopp was trying to convince Mbappé to move from the French capital to Liverpool.
Naturally, since this never actually occurred, there is no need to infer any deeper meaning from this move, but it will certainly spark a flurry of rumors. The foundation for the iconic “Project Mbappé” story was much weaker than this.
Even players who are not members of the Liverpool team have received hugs from Klopp in the past.
