Jurgen Klopp faces Chelsea transfer battle after “wow” claim

Written by admin

Liverpool’s impressive start to the new season has brought the feel-good factor back to Anfield.

Continuing on Wednesday with a 3-1 comeback win against Leicester, the Reds recorded their seventh successive victory by beating their Championship opponents. That booked them a fourth-round trip to Bournemouth in October, as the draw threw up a host of mouthwatering clashes.

It’s been well-documented that Jurgen Klopp is building ‘Liverpool 2.0’ and having only failed to win one of their eight fixtures this term, the Reds seem to be on track. But it’s not only on the pitch where changes are being made.

Reds and Blues battling for Serie A defender

Patrick Dorgu

Liverpool are facing competition from Chelsea in the race to sign highly-rated Leece defender Patrick Dorgu. According to Fichajes, 18-year-old Dorgu is attracting interest from the pair of Premier League giants, despite each of them having multiple left-back options.

Andy Robertson remains Liverpool’s first-choice left-back, while deputy Kostas Tsimikas only signed a contract extension this week. Dorgu – who’s made six first-team appearances for the Serie A side – has represented his country of birth, Denmark, at youth level and is of Nigerian descent.

Klopp wowed by Jones performance

Jurgen Klopp lauded Curtis Jones for his performance as captain during Wednesday’s comeback victory over Leicester. The midfielder, 22, was only given a day’s notice but Klopp heaped praise on him by saying: “The way he executed it was super special I have to say wow. Super smart.”

The Reds boss added: “It was a top performance, I have to say, for the first time for him in a strange position, he did really. I liked it a lot. He is in a good moment so he could probably play any position at the moment. We will try to use him as often as possible in his natural position.”

FSG land minority investment

Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, have sealed a fresh £164million investment in the club – but it won’t go towards any transfer business. FSG have sold a minority stake to global sports investment firm Dynasty Equity, with the incoming funds set to pay off bank debt built up during the pandemic and cover capital expenses.

Dynasty’s involvement is described as being “passive,” while president Mike Gordon insists FSG’s long-term commitment Liverpool “remains as strong as ever.’ Liverpool owner John W Henry has been seeking investment opportunities for over a year in order to help the club grow financially.
