Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has called for Trent Alexander-Arnold to repeat his England exploits against Chelsea. The 25-year-old was on target for the Three Lions in their 3-1 win over Finland on Sunday.
The Reds defender doubled the lead for Lee Carsley’s side as they bounced back from their shock 2-1 defeat at home to Greece in midweek. Alexander-Arnold, who played left-back in Helsinki, was pinpointed by Roy Keane for his part in the stoppage-time.
Liverpool face Chelsea on Sunday with the visit from Enzo Maresca’s side marking the start of a mammoth run for Arne Slot’s side. The Reds travel to Arsenal a week later but their battle to maintain top spot in the Premier League starts with the Londoners at Anfield.
Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones are among the stars to return from international duty from their respective countries, and Sunday’s win for England will mark the end of Alexander-Arnold’s spell with the Three Lions. Following his goal, he posted a simple six-word message to Instagram: “Top Left. Top Team. Top Night.”
His England and Liverpool teammates were among those to comment. Former skipper Henderson also left a message on the full-back’s post asking for a repeat in, arguably, the biggest test of Slot’s tenure on Merseyside so far.
The Ajax midfielder said: “Not bad… this weekend again please.” Liverpool supporters will be hoping that the 25-year-old can repeat history by finding the target against the Londoners, next time the Reds are in action.
