Liverpool Appreciate Cheick Doucoure
What Do Liverpool Need to Do to Sign Doucoure
Fabrizio Romano has opened up about the terms Liverpool will need to meet in order to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Doucoure. He claims that the 23-year-old midfielder remains a highly-rated player at Anfield and one they would love to sign to improve their midfield line before the transfer window closes.
He said on the Here We Go podcast: “Doucoure is a player who is highly rated by Liverpool. People on the board and Jurgen Klopp really appreciate him. The problem is Crystal Palace. That’s why at the moment we can’t mention a proper negotiation between Liverpool and Crystal Palace or an advanced negotiation.
“The appreciation is there, the player is high on the list of Liverpool but after losing important players Crystal Palace are really fighting to keep their players at the club. They don’t want to sell anyone, this is what Palace are communicating. It would take a very big proposal to change the situation around Doucoure.”
How Can Doucoure Fit In at Anfield?
After arriving in the Premier League last year, the Mali midfielder caught the attention of Liverpool with his impressive performances for the Eagles. He made 35 appearances for them in all competitions last season, providing three assists and shielding their defence from the deeper midfield position.
A natural defensive midfielder, the 23-year-old has gained his reputation for being a very proactive player in the midfield. He excels in intercepting the ball, winning vital duels, and allowing his side to work on the counter-attack.
Doucoure also loves taking shots from long distances and link-up play with short passes. He was hailed as a “very influential” player for Palace by Roy Hodgson last season and would seemingly be an ideal replacement for Fabinho if Liverpool make a move for him, even though it appears that they will need to pay a big fee to sign the Mali midfielder, who arrived at Selhurst Park from RC Lens last year for £21 million.
Liverpool have a serious interest in Cheick Doucoure of Crystal Palace.
Doucoure is admired at Anfield and offers Premier League experience unlike some alternative targets.
The Reds missed out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea and had to revert back to previous targets to fill the void in midfield.
Liverpool have yet to replace Fabinho or Jordan Henderson but are expected to sign at least one, possibly two midfielders, this summer.
Reports have surfaced in numerous places tonight of Liverpool’s interest in Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
Ryan Gravenberch has also been heavily linked with a move to Merseyside. The Dutchman has struggled for game time at Bayern Munich.
Liverpool are set to make Doucoure their primary target and will attempt to wrap a deal up for him provided his price tag doesn’t become exorbitant.
