Curtis Jones has spoken out about his injury problems, which have impeded his advancement at Liverpool.
The Reds midfielder has missed a significant amount of this season due to injuries. This season, the 20-year-old has only made eight appearances for Liverpool’s first squad across all competitions.
In November, Jones agreed to a new long-term contract that is valid until the summer of 2027. The Reds academy alumnus has been a member of the team since the under-nine level and progressed through Kirkby’s tiers to make the first team.
However, Jones missed a significant amount of the previous season due to an eye issue, which kept him out of action. Currently, the situation is similar, with the midfielder experiencing a “stress reaction” that has significantly reduced his availability for selection.
Jones has now discussed his injury issues from this season and given his reasoning for eagerly anticipating his return to the matchday squad on a regular basis.
Jones said Liverpoolfc.com, “I’ve always been a youngster who hasn’t really suffered injuries as a young kid.
“I actually can’t recall ever getting hurt or having a hard time. I haven’t had many injuries this season or previous, so yeah, but it looks like
it’s been a long time because of the injuries I have had.
“Last season was the time I got poked in the eye, which you don’t really hear of, getting poked in the eye in training to the point where I wasn’t able to actually see for about four days, and then it took eight weeks to clear. Now I’ve experienced a stress response, which a professional indicated is uncommon, especially when someone is returning.
“Right now, I’m just at the point where I’m fit again, back on the field, and capable of participating in and playing in games. It’s merely a chance for me to regain my rhythm and gaming time right now. I’m therefore quite excited.
“Now I’m just at the point of where I’m fit again, I’m back on the pitch and I’m able now to play games and be involved in games. It’s just a chance now to get my game time and rhythm back. So, I’m really excited.
Jones continued, “I’m in terrific shape. You can see that I’m grinning once more. Naturally, I’m excited, and I can’t wait to play the upcoming game.
