Following the acquisition of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hove Albion, Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool is engaged in negotiations for three other transfers.
According to the transfer expert’s tweet on Twitter, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly working on ‘two more new midfielders’ and there is also a ‘clear aim’ to recruit a center-back this summer.
It was obvious to all that the midfield was going to be the main area of construction, but Romano added that ‘contacts are taking place’ for the team to add a ‘left-footed’ centre-back.
Over the years, no-one can diminish what Virgil van Dijk has done, both on the Premier League and European stage.
But it’s fair to say that he hasn’t looked his old self for a while, whilst Joel Matip’s form has also declined, alongside Joe Gomez.
Ibrahima Konate might contend that he was Liverpool’s best defender, but the player still experiences injury problems.
However, Romano released the following information this morning regarding Liverpool’s upcoming trades following the Mac Allister exchange:
“Liverpool are working on two more new midfielders after Mac Allister, but there’s also clear intention to sign a new centre-back this summer,” stated Romano.
Klopp and the new director Schmadtke are “on it”; contacts are being made behind the scenes for the new CB with a left-footed emphasis.
Positive start for Liverpool in the 2023 summer transfer market
The 2023 summer transfer window isn’t even officially opened and Liverpool already have a new face through their doors.
It’s a signing that is very much needed and also a deal that has been lauded because of how ‘cheap’ and ‘smart’ it is.
But plenty more is still needed, with suggestions that midfield duo Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram are also on the radar.
Liverpool told to pay over £70m if they want to sign 21-y/o star this summer
According to reports, Liverpool will need to fork over more than £70 million to get Moises Caicedo after Brighton & Hove Albion raised the midfielder’s asking price.
The Seagulls are reportedly unwilling to let the 21-year-old depart for the same price Caicedo was worth in the January transfer window, when Arsenal made two unsuccessful efforts to sign the Ecuadorian international for north London.
Liverpool have already landed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton this summer in a deal believed to be worth £55m, and the Reds could now move to Caicedo as Jurgen Klopp looks to overhaul his midfield ahead of the new Premier League season.
The South American was one of the standout players of the 2022–23 season, and given Liverpool’s desire to add a new midfielder to complement Mac Allister, Caicedo is an easy choice given his exceptional abilities and potential.
However, Liverpool may now face significant difficulties as a result of Brighton’s asking price. Financially strapped due to the Reds’ failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, a move for Caicedo may now be futile given the Seagulls’ new asking price for their top player.
Liverpool could have to sell before they can consider Caicedo move
With Brighton already losing Mac Allister and Liverpool only having a certain amount of money to spend, Caicedo is well on his way to becoming one of the top midfielders in Europe. The south coast club is therefore within their rights to demand everything they want for the 21-year-old.
The Anfield team is already trying to shed a number of periphery players to help balance their payroll and finance much-needed acquisitions, so the Reds may have to sell before they can make a firm bid for Caicedo.
