Olympic legend Usain Bolt has outlined why he “can’t have” Liverpool win a Premier League title before Manchester United, and admitted he’d rather see Manchester City win the league than Arne Slot’s side.
The Reds recently finished third in the top-flight standings and nine points behind winners City. Liverpool, led by former manager Jurgen Klopp, were also five points behind runners-up Arsenal in the table.
Liverpool still managed to finish the campaign with a major trophy added to their collection. The Reds won the Carabao Cup back in February for the 10th time in the club’s illustrious history.
The majority of the season saw Liverpool in a title race with Man City and Arsenal. However, results in the final weeks saw the Reds’ quest for a 20th league title falter with City going on to win a fourth consecutive top-flight.
Bolt, an avid Man United supporter, has explained why he was not displeased to see Man City win the title compared to Liverpool and Arsenal. The eight-time Olympic gold medalist went on to give a blunt reason why he does not want to see the Reds win the title.
“I’d rather Man City win than Arsenal because I couldn’t deal with it,” Bolt told talkSPORT. “Liverpool? No, because they’d be tied on titles with us and we can’t have that and because Arsenal talk so much, I’d rather deal with Man City.
“They’re all young fans and I don’t know many young people so I’m fine with that!”
Liverpool will look to win their 20th league title next season when the Premier League campaign gets underway in August. Arne Slot will be the head coach of the Reds after replacing Klopp in the Anfield dugout.
The Premier League fixtures will be confirmed later this month before Slot takes charge of Liverpool’s pre-season preparations. The Reds will travel to the United States next month for three friendly matches against Real Betis, Arsenal and Man United before the start of the new campaign.
