Darwin Nunez has claimed that ‘everyone is against’ Liverpool after today’s loss against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Reds were dealt a remarkably bad hand by the officials, with the PGMOL admitting that Luis Diaz’s first-half goal was wrongly disallowed.
Along with debatable red cards for Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota, it added up to an incredibly frustrating evening for Liverpool.
After the game, the Reds official Instagram page posted an image of the game with the caption ‘It ends in defeat.’ Underneath the post was a man who didn’t actually feature at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
“Come on Liverpool, we are together and against everyone,” wrote the 24-year-old.
Nunez sends defiant Liverpool response
Right now, it really does feel as though Liverpool are against the world. There have been a number of really, really bad decisions against the Reds this season.
Today’s with Diaz is undoubtedly the worst, though. It wasn’t even close, the Colombian was quite clearly onside.
It was a wonderful finish by Diaz, too. Now it counts for nothing.
What it will hopefully do is create something of a siege mentality within Liverpool. Coupled with the quality within the team right now, that could be bad news for their rivals.
Aside from the result, the Reds were actually very good against Tottenham. Eleven against eleven and even ten against ten, Liverpool looked assured and dangerous.
If they can use the bad luck and feeling of injustice from today and take it into the rest of the season, they’re going to take some stopping.
For now it may not feel that way, but perhaps Liverpool can use today to drive them onto something special. Nunez could be the perfect man to lead it.
