Paul Scholes claimed that Casemiro, a midfielder for Manchester United who has excelled since joining in the summer, is Erik ten Hag’s most crucial player.
Casemiro joined the Reds from Real Madrid during the summer transfer window, and he has since made 25 appearances for the club, including Saturday’s derby match against Manchester City. The 30-year-old, who won five Champions League crowns with Los Blancos, started just one Premier League game in his first four games before becoming a regular starter.
United had struggled to rely on a competent defensive midfielder prior to Casemiro’s arrival, with Scott McTominay and Fred often being utilised just in front of the back four. However, the Brazilian international has formed a solid partnership with Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes in the centre of the park in recent months and has become undroppable for Erik ten Hag.
Before United’s derby match against City, Reds legend Scholes made the claim that Casemiro was the club’s most crucial player. Scholes also praised the impact Casemiro has made since starting to play regularly for Ten Hag.
He is without a doubt United’s most crucial player, according to Scholes. “I honestly didn’t understand why it took him so long to join the squad; perhaps he was just acclimating to the surroundings and his new comrades here, but ever since he joined, the difference has been striking.
“You think that during the first half of the season, United was just wasting time by bringing in forward players since the two players already present couldn’t provide for them. It is now possible to see what skills, speed, and power they possess in the forward sections.
“I’ve highlighted how that’s brought out Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen’s quality, it just made the team completely different now that there’s that link in midfield between defense and attack that was severely lacking in the first part of the season,” remarked the player.
On Saturday, Casemiro, Fred, and Eriksen started in midfield against Pep Guardiola’s team, with Fernandes playing a more forward position.
