According to rumours, Liverpool may have to contend with fierce competition to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo in January.
With their existing midfielders finding it difficult to dominate Premier League games, the Reds urgently need to bolster their midfield, and Ecuadorian Caicedo’s name has been associated with Liverpool since the summer.
However, attempts to sign Benfica star Enzo Fernandez fell through, so Graham Potter’s struggling Blues are now looking for an alternative.
Additionally, negotiations for Brighton’s Caicedo and World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister are reportedly being looked into by Chelsea, according to The Guardian. Although the Seagulls are rumored to seek roughly £70 million for the 21-year-old, who joined them from Independiente del Valle in 2021, a transfer for the former would reportedly be less difficult.
Potter, the manager of Chelsea, is familiar with Caicedo because he was Brighton’s manager when the Premier League season began. As reported by the Metro, Potter commented on Caicedo’s interest back in August, saying: “It doesn’t surprise me that people are looking at him because he is playing at a tremendous level.
“As soon as you do your study on him, you realize that he is a top student, a wonderful person, young, playing in the Premier League, and has all the skills necessary to play at the very, very highest level.”
