Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards has said that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool would mount a real challenge for the Premier League title this season if they are able to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer transfer window.
The former Manchester City defender has said on Sky Sports Football (1:10pm, August 13, 2023) that Liverpool could win the Premier League title if they are able to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion
Richards has outlined what makes the 21-year-old Ecuador international defensive midfielder such a good player.
The Mirror has reported that Liverpool had agreed a £111 million deal with Brighton for Caicedo this week, but he wants to join only Chelsea this summer.
The Guardian has claimed that Chelsea are now planning to pay £115 million for the youngster and bring him to Stamford Bridge.
Richards said: “He is a quality player, and what he can add in that midfield in terms of, he plays it simple, he is disciplined, such a young age as well.
“I think if he goes to Liverpool, Liverpool will mount a real challenge.”
Liverpool need to plan without Moises Caicedo
In our view, Liverpool should plan for this season without Moises Caicedo.
It does not look like the midfielder is heading to Anfield this summer.
After all, Caicedo has reportedly directly told Liverpool that he wants to join Chelsea.
There is speculation that Liverpool are still keen on the Brighton star, but we believe that the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners should just move on and find someone else to sign instead.
Moreover, Liverpool should not pay £115 million for a 21-year-old midfielder who has played only a handful of matches in the Premier League.
Caicedo has made 45 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
The youngster has scored two goals and given two assists in those matches.
