Stefan Bajcetic will return to full team training for Liverpool after they return from their Far East tour later this week.
And the Reds are likely to be further bolstered by Thiago Alcantara soon making a similar step in his recovery from injury as the clock ticks down on the new Premier League season.
Bajcetic hasn’t featured since March after an adductor problem that forced a premature end to a breakthrough campaign for the 18-year-old, while Thiago finished the season early due to an operation to cure a niggling hip issue.
Both midfielders remained on Merseyside to work on individual fitness programmes as the majority of the squad travelled to Singapore for friendlies against Leicester City on Sunday and Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
And Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has explained why Bajectic can make an impact on his return to fitness.
“Stefan is in the last steps back into team training,” he said. “We left him and Thiago at home because the travel will cost them maybe three or four days of training so it makes no sense in a very important stage of rehab for both of the boys. The plan is he is back in team training when we arrive back home.
“He is a super talented player, a really cool package. It wasn’t a bad injury but for a young player an annoying one where he can feel pretty quickly fit again but still not allowed to do a lot. Then you have to wait and wait and wait until a specific moment and go, and that’s where we are now.
“He has played for us position six and eight and scored goals at a really young age and showed a lot of tactical discipline. He as a good overview, good passing, a lot good things but still very young.
“We have to make sure we use him in the right way in the right moments and increase the time step by step spent with us.”
Another Liverpool midfielder, summer signing Dominik Szoboszlai, missed last Monday’s 4-4 friendly draw with Greuther Furth after injuring his ankle in the training camp in Germany.
However, the 22-year-old trained on both Friday and Saturday evening here in Singapore, and Klopp said on Saturday: “He is back. He will play tomorrow, definitely. We had a lot of intense sessions and in one moment he rolled his ankle. But nothing really happened other than a few days and proper treatment and was back running very quickly.”
Liverpool now submit offer to sign £86million defender – Report
Dominik Szoboszlai was acquired by Liverpool from RB Leipzig, and now there are rumours that Liverpool is pursuing another player from the German club.
Josko Gvardiol, a central defender who has been strongly linked to a transfer to Manchester City, is the topic of conversation.
A few days back, The Guardian, Fabrizio Romano, revealed that the Sky Blues have agreed a fee with the Bundesliga side to hire the Croatian international this summer.
However, later, Lepzig’s sporting director, Max Eberl, confirmed:
“There is no agreement with Manchester City. Not even close,”
As per The Mirror, the Cityzens have been handed a two-week deadline to complete the signing of the 21-year-old, who was arguably the best defender at the FIFA World Cup last year.
Last night, Spanish source, Fichajes, claimed the Premier League is preparing for an exciting battle over the transfer of Gvardiol.
The media outlet mention the Merseysiders are one of the English sides taking advantage of the current impasse between City and Leipzig.
It is reported that Liverpool have submitted an offer to try to steal the signing of the youngster, who is valued at around £86million (100 million euros).
Guardiola’s team are still in pole position but even Manchester United and Chelsea are pressing to secure the star from Germany.
Josko Gvardiol is a massive Liverpool fan. Earlier this year, the defender stated (RTL Danas via (The Mail):
