Romeo Lavia’s move from Southampton is becoming quite the saga.
Indeed, the Belgian midfielder’s future is up in the air, and it’s unclear where he’s going to end up – Chelsea or Liverpool.
The Reds have made an opening bid for the player, but according to Ben Jacobs, Chelsea are now ready to blow the Reds out of the water for Lavia.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has shared what he knows about the situation on his YouTube channel, and he’s claimed that while Chelsea are having a real look at Lavia, Liverpool are ahead of their west London rivals in this transfer battle at the moment.
Liverpool leading the race
Romano shared what he knows about Lavia as well as an update on Moises Caicedo.
“What I can confirm is that Caicedo wants to go to Chelsea, Caicedo is pushing to go to Chelsea, but it is true as we have seen that Chelsea are looking at some alternatives. It is true that Chelsea are keeping an eye on Romeo Lavia, but Liverpool are ahead at this moment in the race for Lavia,” Romano said.
Can change quickly
Liverpool may well be leading the race to sign Lavia at the moment, but now isn’t the time to rest on our laurels.
Chelsea are always like a coiled viper in the transfer window, they can strike from out of nowhere and at any time, and if they hit the accelerator on this Lavia deal, it could be out of Liverpool’s reach before they even know it.
Of course, it is looking promising for Liverpool right now, but they need to press on and get this signing finalised as soon as possible or else Chelsea could quickly creep up on them.
‘Very close’: £40m player will now undergo his medical
Fabinho will undergo his medical with Al-Ittihad soon.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Brazilian is ‘on the verge’ of his Liverpool exit and will be scheduled for medical tests if all goes to plan.
Fabinho’s move to Al-Ittihad has been in the works in recent weeks and he looked set to have departed Anfield alongside Jordan Henderson, however delays to the deal meant he returned to Merseyside for training this week.
After journalist David Ornstein claimed that midfielder exit would be confirmed this week, the deal now looks very close to completion after Fabinho agreed a three-year deal with Al-Ittihad.
Romano has claimed that Liverpool are ‘still cautious’ as documents have to be checked, but all parties are confident they can get the deal across the line this weekend.
Fabinho’s £40 million move to Saudi Arabia is likely to join hands with the potential arrival of Romeo Lavia, who the Reds are currently thrashing out a move for.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have had an initial bid rejected by Southampton but are expected to go in with an improved offer, with the Saints holding out for their £50m valuation of the 19-year-old.
Liverpool will go even if Fabinho seals move to Al-Ittihad
Liverpool paid an initial fee of £39 million when they signed Fabinho from Monaco five years ago and it appears that they will now sell him for a similar amount.
The Brazilian has been sensational during his time on Merseyside and has been pivotal in their success under Klopp, however the last season suggested he is past his peak as he approaches his 30th birthday in October.
While he does have three years remaining on his contract, Liverpool have got themselves a brilliant deal if Al-Ittihad are to fork out £40m for Fabinho.
The Brazil international’s exit will fund a large chunk of the Lavia deal, while the Belgian could well prove to be an absolute steal if he can reach his potential.
