Given that the Liverpool legend is apparently eager to buy out his Gremio contract in order to join Lionel Messi in Major League Soccer, Luis Suarez might be the next major figure to sign with Inter Miami.
Messi has already signed with Inter Miami, joining fellow Camp Nou great Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, creating something of a Barcelona invasion.
After Phil Neville was fired, former Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino was appointed, and Suarez may be the next ex-Barcelona player to sign with the team that David Beckham co-owns.
ESPN report that Inter Miami have bought an extra spot on their roster for a foreign player, buying the place from San Jose Earthquakes for $150,000 (£117,000).
Each MLS team starts with eight spots for foreign players but these can be exchanged between the clubs, as has happened in this situation.
That spot could be used for Suarez, with ESPN Brasil reporting that he is keen to leave Gremio for Inter Miami and is even willing to repay the salary he has earned so far in 2023, with some additional payments on top of that.
Suarez only signed for Gremio this year from Uruguayan side Nacional, inking a two-year contract, but already wants to move on.
Gremio coach Renato Gaucho admitted the 36-year-old is now a ‘problem’ as he said at a recent press coneference: ‘Suarez is now a problem that is in the president’s hands. They are exchanging ideas.
‘As a coach I have to focus on leading the team. It seems like a Mexican soap opera that should end now. Until August 2 I’m quiet, then we’ll see how we continue.
‘Of course we want Suarez to stay. I can’t vouch for him. I know what he thinks and what the club thinks. For now, he has been talking to the board and the president.’
‘Doors are opening’ for player to join Liverpool – Midfielder waiting for agent’s call
Liverpool’s’main target’ to bolster their midfield is Southampton’s Roméo Lavia.
La Dernière Heure reports that the 19-year-old’s chances of joining the Reds are improving and that “doors are opening.”
According to reports, the Southampton player is keeping an eye on events from a distance as Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal show interest. He is “on alert” and watching for his agent’s call.
Given that the midfielder is not the Gunners’ or the Blues’ top priority, a transfer to London is doubtful. On the other hand, he has been designated as a “priority” target by Jürgen Klopp and his team.
Jordan Henderson and Fabinho may both leave Liverpool for Saudi Arabia, which would necessitate the signing of a new midfielder. This is where the Southampton man fits in as he’s appreciated by Klopp.
It’s claimed the Merseyside club have to convince Southampton, who were relegated from the Premier League last season.
DH state the Saints are ‘very greedy’ and would demand close to €60m for the Belgian, which Liverpool are unwilling to pay.
The report explains that ‘time and patience’ is on both Lavia and Liverpool’s side for the potential deal because Southampton have to get rid of some of their players this summer.
