Arne Slot already has a better number six than Martin Zubimendi at Liverpool – opinion

Arne Slot is reportedly keen on improving his midfield with the signature of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.

Liverpool want Zubimendi this summer, with new manager Slot seemingly eager to bolster his options in that area.

The Dutchman has been experimenting with the number six role so far this summer, but it remains to be seen who will get the nod when the season begins.

Zubimendi is likely to land the role should he arrive at Liverpool from Real Sociedad, with the player potentially joining for £52million.

Slot may, however, have changed his mind on the potential deal after what he has witnessed in pre-season.

Ryan Gravenberch steps up for Liverpool vs Sevilla

The manager guided the Reds to wins over Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United on the pre-season tour of the USA.

And Slot then masterminded a 4-1 victory over Sevilla in his first pre-season match at Anfield, with Ryan Gravenberch shining deep in midfield for Liverpool.

As per the LFC Transfer Room, the midfielder completed 36 of his 39 passes (92%) in the first half on Merseyside.

Moreover, he made six final third passes, two clearances, three recoveries, one interception and won three of his four ground duels.

Gravenberch continued his impressive display into the second half, before being substituted to a huge applause in the 82nd minute.

Liverpool don’t need to sign Martin Zubimendi

The midfielder joined the Reds for £34million from Bayern Munich last season, and made 38 appearances in his debut campaign.

While he didn’t exactly set Anfield alight, there is every chance that Gravenberch can thrive in a new system under a new manager.

Moreover, at just 22, the Netherlands international can only get better, with the youngster still needing time to fully come into his own in English football.

Klopp certainly saw potential in the player, with the German and his recruitment team rarely getting things wrong in the transfer window.

Gravenberch certainly has what it takes to adopt the number six role under Slot, which would undoubtedly eliminate the need for Zubimendi.

Such a situation would, of course, save Liverpool millions, with Wataru Endo able to operate as Gravenberch’s deputy.
