According to a former Benfica player, Darwin Nunez of Liverpool can become “as frightening as Erling Haaland.”
Intense discussion has surrounded the Reds forward in recent weeks, and arguably since since his summer transfer from Benfica. Back in the summer, Liverpool and a deal worth an initial £64 million that may increase to £85 million with add-ons was reached.
Nunez has since scored nine goals in all competitions. However, the Liverpool striker has received criticism for his finishing prowess due to his performance since the World Cup.
Haaland has scored 27 goals in 21 outings for Man City this season, and a former Benfica star believes that Nunez could be ‘as scary’ as the Norway international. Ex-defender Scott Minto, who also played for West Ham and Chelsea in his career, believes that opposition players will not enjoy playing against the Liverpool striker.
Minto said to Talksport, “Look at what this guy is doing to defenses.”
“Ask the players who are competing against him. They’ll be complaining, “I don’t want to play against him every single week.”
This somebody may be nearly as terrifying as Erling Haaland himself.
“And in fact, I believe he performs better in the game as well.
“I think Haaland is probably just told to stay up there, but Darwin Nunez has much more to his game where he drifts out to the left, is able to come and help defensively if necessary, but he can also bully two defenders and get in behind with his pace, ” the analyst said.
“This guy is only going to get better and Liverpool fans will enjoy that very much indeed.”
